Abstract

This study evaluates Serpil Sancar's book “Masculinity: Impossible Power - Men in Family, Market, and Street.” The book stands out as an important work by thoroughly examining the power relations of men in social and economic contexts. It provides a detailed analysis of how masculinity is shaped and reinforced, from roles within the family to the labor market and the public sphere. Supported by Ankara University and TÜBİTAK, this work is grounded in
extensive interviews with men from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, solidifying the foundation of the study. The book offers a perspective that challenges the traditional dominant
masculinity model and explores alternative forms of masculinity. Sancar particularly criticizes the role of elite men in ignoring gender inequality and their role in questioning the existing system. By analyzing the roots of male dominance within historical and cultural contexts, Sancar explores the possibilities of new forms of masculinity that resist this structure. She examines the concept of power in modern societies with a critical eye and provides original perspectives that could contribute to the construction of a new social order.
